What is Macular Degeneration?

Ruth Mercer

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of severe vision impairment in older Australians.

It occurs when central vision deteriorates, making reading, close work and recognising faces more difficult.

Macular Degeneration Awareness Week runs from 25 June - 1 July 2007 and aims to promote awareness.

Raising awareness of Deafblindness

Stephen

Our eyes and ears take in an incredible amount of information from the world around us. Can you imagine no longer being able to use these senses? This is a reality for many Australians who are affected by the dual disability of deafblindness.

Supporting young Australians is the first step...

Andrew

Andrew is only five, yet he's had an incredible journey. At four months he was diagnosed with retinal dysplasia, which means his retinas didn't form properly. Although his eyes have been operated on, it is unlikely that he will ever see.

Vision Australia has been working with Andrew and his family to help him to live his life to the full. And we'll continue to support him as he moves through school and beyond, but we need your help.
